Development partners have continued to lend its support to Nigeria’s fight against polio.

One of such supports is coming from the German government which has promised more collaboration and commitments.

The Portfolio Manager, German Government Credit Institute for Reconstruction Mission, Vincent El-Haidag, recently visited a community in Jiwa, in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, to access the role of the traditional leaders in polio eradication.

El-Haidag, who expressed satisfaction with his findings, promised maximum support for the eradication of polio and other diseases in the country.

He also applauded the traditional leaders for being committed to meeting the set target COVID-19 vaccination and expressed hope that the Nigeria/Germany partnership for over 20 years will accelerate impact.

According to him, their visit to Nigeria was to assess the investments made on polio eradication, only to see that the efforts have impacted routine immunization and other diseases.

“We are here to see the results and also understand the driving sector in the success of polio eradication as we involve the inclusion of traditional leaders” he added.

“We will take back whatever we gathered to our government including the challenges and way forward.

“This is because we are going to continue the support for the fight against diseases in the country, especially polio eradication.’’

On his part, the traditional leader of Jiwa, FCT, Alhaji Idris Musa, said their key role is to support polio and routine immunization campaigns while resolving to mount a vigorous sensitization against all forms of misinformation on Oral Polio Vaccine safety in the country.
