Federal Government Inaugurates Treasury Management For Sustainable Development

The Minister of State for Education, Mr Goodluck Opiah, says treasury management is imperative for sustainable development of any country because of its strategic approach to optimising beneficial returns of innovative deployment to both public and private finance.

The Minister who stated this at the inauguration of the Council of the Chartered Institute of Treasury Management (CCITM) in Abuja emphasised that treasury management would assist, safeguard resources and ensure value for money.

According to him, Treasury Management would ensure supervision and management of cash flows and balances with better services from banks, to propel proper allocation of funds which will minimise fraud and embezzlement.

He said the Chartered Institute of Treasury Management is particularly important to the education sector since it will help ensure that finances allocated to the sector by government, civil society and non governmental organisations are judiciously utilised for the achievement of the Ministry’s three focal areas of Access, Quality and Systems Strengthening

.

The Minister charged the Council members to contribute their quota to ensure that the vision, mission, mandate and functions of the institute as enshrined in the Act establishing it are achieved for sustainable development in Nigeria.

Mr Opiah expressed hope that operations of the Institute would help achieve the Nigeria education target of preparing and arming Nigeria’s youths with the competitive advantage of the 21st century in a knowledge-driven economy within and outside the country.
