The remains of late Pa Benson Azuoma Okoroegbe was last weekend committed to mother earth in his home by the St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Uru/Umuanu, Isi Ogwa, Mbaitoli LGA, Imo State.

Okoroegbe who was aged 87 hails from the Umuekezie kindred of Uru, Isi Ogwa and was a strong Anglican faithful which earned him the Ezinna title. He was a staunch member and very active participant in the Anglican Christian Fathers Fellowship of his church. He passed on reportedly a devoted Christian that grew his children with the fear of the Lord

During the funeral service he was described as a thoroughly good man who lived a life worthy of emulation and gave his life in the service of the Lord and mankind in general.

In his tribute HRH Eze G.C.Ihenacho, Eze Ogwa 11 of Isi Ogwa described him thus: “His life was characterized by self-discipline, industry, boldness and perseverance in the face of difficulties.”

What he lacked in education he made up with his business acumen and agro business focusing on yam farming and sales. He was to earn the title of Ezeji as a result in 2007. He was resourceful in business that he turned a great source of support to kinsmen and friends alike.

Pa Azuoma as he was fondly called served his community, kindred and age grade in various capacities. He was one of the founding fathers of Uru Improvement Union, Owerri branch in the 1970’s where he eventually served as a chairman. He was also chairman of his Umuekezie kindred in the ‘70’s where he initiated some welfare programs which earned him the confidence of the people.

Okoroegbe was married to the late Ezinne Esther who passed on and was buried in February, after which the demise of Pa Azuoma occurred in April. The union produced 9 children, 6 sons and 3 daughters among who is Sir Chris Okoroegbe, (Ogbuhuruzo 1 of Isi Ogwa), a chartered accountant and retired treasurer in the local government administration.
