It was another moment of joy for the teachers and pupils of Uru Primary School, Uru, Isi Ogwa in Mbaitoli Local Government Area when the community put smiles on their faces by donating a newly completed 3 room toilet facility to the school.

The project was delivered by a concerned group in the community called Independent Interventionist Group for Uru Primary School, an initiative of the current president of the community, Barr Ken Emekowa before he was elected into office

Commissioning the project, the Traditional Prime Minister (TPM) of Isi Ogwa, High Chief Chike Nwaiwu (Ahaejiagamba) commended the initiative extolling the leadership of Barr Emekowa which he described as purposeful.

In his words, “you have done so much in so short a time. We have seen leaderships have come and gone but yours appears exceptional drawing from the road map. Please sustain the tempo because you are focused”. He later cut the tape to declare the facility open for use

Former president of the community and respected elder, Chief Charles Nwaiwu (Ashiakponu) thanked the interventionist group for their efforts so far even as he commended the head teacher of the school for good performances. He remarked that teaching and grooming of children is one of the hardest jobs which requires the co-operation of all stakeholders

Emekowa in his comment while handing over reeled out some positive actions from the group which had impacted the school. He reminded that for the first time in the history of the school, a Father Christmas Show took place to excite the students last December.

“We also secured a lawn mower to keep the compound clean. We have also rehabilitated a classroom block putting windows and doors, worked on the leaking roof, as well as patching up the floors of the classroom block which were ripped open by the leakages. This is to make our kids comfortable.

“The toilet facility and the classroom renovation were done at the cost of N1.5m and N.5m respectively. The entire items achieved above are in the first phase of the projects designed to uplift the school’’, he concluded.

Responding, the Head Mistress of the school, Mrs. Nnenna Madufor expressed appreciation and stressing her delight at how passionate the community is about the school adding that this is rare in many areas.

The leaders with the school authorities conducted on the site assessment of other facilities including a near collapsing structure which poses great danger to people.

Apostle Chima Chris offered prayers at the event while Pastor Walter Nwaiwu praised all those who worked to the realization of the effort
