Kuje Jail Attacks: DSS debunks Newspaper report

By Princess-Ekwi Ajide, Abuja

The Department of State Services, DSS, says none of its personnel escaped from Kuje prison as reported by an online Vanguard newspaper on 6th July, 2022

A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Department of State Services, National Headquarters Abuja, Dr. Peter Afunanya, refuted the report captioned: Kuje Prison Attack: One Suspect Reportedly Caught After Hot Chase by Gallant Officers, saying that none of its personnel was involved in the escape episode

According to the statement, the report had alleged that one of the escaping inmates who “claimed to be a DSS personnel was apprehended by NCS operatives near Kwali after a chase.” and that the so called DSS operative also claimed to be “carrying out a special mission in the forest”.

The statement stressed that at the point of the attack on the prison, no DSS personnel was an inmate at the holding facility just as the claim of carrying out a special assignment was non-existent.

It further enjoined the public to disregard the Vanguard report as it is not factual and therefore misleading.
