Minister of Defence celebrates Nigeria’s democracy at 23

The Minister of Defence Maj Gen Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd) has urged Nigeria troops to remain resolute in defending the indivisibility of the Country as an uncompromising democratic nation.

The Minister, who congratulated Nigerians on the auspicious occasion of the celebration of the Nation’s 23rd unbroken years of democratic governance stated that this year’s Democracy Day Celebration has put the country on a global map as a leading democratic nation.

He was full of praises for President Muhammadu Buhari who he described as an avowed number one democrat under whose regime the country had attained a paradigm shift in widening institutional capabilities to growing democracy capable of competing favourably with advanced democracies of the world.

General Magashi, while extoling the virtues of the founding fathers of the country for bequething a virile nation, commended the Nigeria Military for surbordinating to civil rule and acknowledged the sacrifices of the heroes of democracy from 1999 to date.

A statement signed by the Special Assistant to the Minister of Defence on Media and Publicity, Mohammad Abdulkadri, noted the minister appreciated the troops in the various theatres of combats for doggedly clearing the doubts of the challengers of the Nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and charged theme to remain gallant in defending the indivisibility of the Country as an uncompromising democratic nation.
