Ex-deputy Chief of Staff libation video causes political stir in Abia

By Savinews Reporter

A trending online video credited to Chief Charles Ogbonnaya, former Deputy Chief of Staff to Abia State Governor, is presently causing political storm in Abia State.

In the Facebook video, the former Deputy Chief of Staff was seen pouring libations on the ground, while standing with Mr Chima Anyaso, a Governorship aspirant who paid him a visit in his residence in Umuahia.

In the video, the Evulogu Ibeku as he is popularly known in.Abia State declared that Ngwa man will not rule Abia State, as it is not their turn.

He went ahead to pray to the gods of the land to help “pursue those pursuing us” while maintaining that Ngwa man will not rule Abia in 2023.

However, minutes after the video hit the social media, Abia State political space became charged as many commentators, especially those from Ngwa clan of Abia State described Chief Ogbonna’s outburst and prayers as strange while others called the display evil.

Some political groups and some indigenes of Ngwa extraction who also did not take the video lightly, also described the video as a hate speech against Ngwa nation.

For Ugwumba Adiele, Marvin Isiguzoro and Joshua Chisom, it was a misplaced anger for Chief Charles Ogbonnaya to to speak in the language he applied, as according to them, his outbursts were capable of inciting a crises.

This position is in variance with Mr Ugochukwu, a media manager who disagreed with those condemning Ogbonnaya’s political stance, insisting that there was nothing inciting about it.

Nwankwo faulted the hullabaloo surrounding the libation pouring video clips which he said was a child’s play to 2015 elections in Abia State where coffins were used to intimidate voters.

To put an ice on the hot argument, Chief Charles Ogbonnaya has organised a press conference at his residence.

During the press conference, the Umuobasi-Ugba born politician maintained his demand that power should rotate to Abia North Senatorial zone in 2023 for the interest of peace in Abia State.

Ogbonnaya faulted the misunderstanding and misconstruing of his message and urged his party, the PDP to do the right thing by allowing rotation of power.

He categorically warned PDP to zone power to Abia North or risk losing woefully.

Ogbonnaya used the press conference downplay all controversy associated with his opinions and said he did not intend to spread any hate speech and any group.

Evulogu recalled how he and other politicians worked for election and re-election of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu in 2015 and 2019 and said he was surprised to see those who worked against Ikpeazu’s election now turning round to mislead PDP in Abia.
