The Federal Capital Development Administration (FCDA) on Thursday, disobeyed an extant and clear orders of the FCT High Court by levelling to rubbles a wing of a popular estate in Abuja.
The demolition which happened in the full glare of over a hundred military and para-military personnel, fully armed that accompanied some officials of the FCDA with a number of trucks to the estate a few minutes to 4 PM in a commando style to carry out the illegal demolition.
The developer of the estate, popularly known as JENEW Estate, Karsana, which shares boundary with Queens Estate in Gwarimpa neigbhourhood was said to be in dispute with the FCDA leading to the marking of over 60 choice properties for demolition.
The developer according to reports had dragged the FCT Minister, FCDA and Abuja Metropolitan Management Council before Justice A. S. Adepoju of Wuse High Court, restraining them from carrying out the demolition.
The court had on October 28, 2021 granted an order of interlocutory injuction restraining the FCDA and Minister from going ahead with the demolition of the estate pending hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
This court order the FCDA flagrantly disobyed and had gone ahead to carry out a massive demolition and destructions of palatial buildings numbering over twenty with a threat to return for the other marked buildings.
A resident lamented that the demolition allegedly carried out by the FCDA, contrary to an extant and clear orders of the FCT High Court, should be brought to the attention of the Court and proper legal sanctions taken against the perpetrators.
Reports say fear of possible attack by hoodlums was palpable as the estate security operatives were having hectic moment trying to prevent vandals from taking advantage of the demolition to invade the estate in search of ruins.
