Police Arrest 455 Suspects, Rescue 27 Kidnap Victims In One Week
The Nigeria Police Force says it arrested 455 suspects, rescued 27 kidnapped victims and recovered 15 firearms and 413 rounds of live ammunition during operations across the country between September 19 and 25, 2026.
The weekly operational briefing said the suspects were linked to kidnapping, armed robbery, homicide, banditry, cultism, terrorism, cattle rustling and other crimes.
Among the major operations, police in the FCT arrested 334 suspects during coordinated raids on identified criminal hotspots across Abuja, with illicit drugs also recovered.
In Benue, eight kidnap victims abducted from a commercial bus were rescued following a search operation in Ohimini Local Government Area.
Police in Katsina also foiled a suspected bandit attack along the Kankara-Dutsin-Ma road, rescuing seven people, including six female university students, after a gun battle forced the attackers to flee.
In Kaduna, detectives intercepted two suspected members of a gun-running syndicate and recovered 300 rounds of live ammunition, while in Adamawa, two kidnapped victims were rescued from a suspected kidnappers’ den in Toungo.
Other operations recorded the arrest of 20 suspected cultists in Delta, four suspected members of the outlawed IPOB/ESN group in Anambra, and a wanted serial armed robber and kidnapper in Abia.
In Lagos, police busted an armed robbery gang, recovering a pump-action gun, a Beretta pistol and 15 rounds of ammunition.
The Force said the operations reflected its continued emphasis on intelligence-led and community-supported policing under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
