Police Arrest 49 Suspects, Recover Guns, Drugs, Vandalised Cables Across Four States, FCT
Police operations across Delta, Oyo, the FCT, Taraba and Ondo states have led to the arrest of at least 49 suspects, including suspected cultists, murder suspects and vandals, with firearms, ammunition, suspected illicit drugs and vandalised cables recovered.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the biggest haul was recorded in Delta State, where 24 suspected cultists and other suspects were arrested in separate operations.
Four suspects linked to a murder in Ubulubu Village were arrested, with a locally-made single-barrelled gun, a live cartridge and suspected cannabis recovered. Acting on intelligence from earlier arrests, police also raided a suspected criminal hideout in Obiaruku and arrested 20 suspected cultists.
In Oyo State, police arrested two suspects in separate murder and cable-vandalism cases. A machete allegedly used in the killing of a 31-year-old man was recovered, while a sack containing suspected vandalised cables was recovered from another suspect in Ogbomoso.
In the FCT, police arrested a suspect accused of shooting an Okada rider and recovered a Dane gun. Two other suspects were also arrested while allegedly cutting and stealing solar electric poles along railway tracks at Bricks City Estate.
Meanwhile, police in Taraba repelled an attempted break-in at an off-campus student hostel in Jalingo, while tactical teams in Ondo rescued the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, and his escorts during a violent protest at Ijare.
The police also responded to a farmers-herders clash in Yaba, FCT, evacuating four injured persons to Yaba General Hospital.
The Force said investigations into the incidents are ongoing.
