NITDA, NAWOJ Forge Alliance to Boost Digital Skills, Back WINSEC 202
As artificial intelligence and digital technologies continue to reshape journalism, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has pledged to partner with the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) to strengthen digital literacy, cybersecurity awareness and fact-checking skills among women journalists.
The commitment was made on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the NAWOJ National Chairperson, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, and her delegation to NITDA’s headquarters in Abuja, where they were received on behalf of the Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, by the Director of Stakeholders Management and Partnership, Dr Aristotle Onumo.
Dr Onumo said the proposed collaboration aligns with NITDA’s vision of building a digitally enabled nation through inclusive technological innovation, noting that the agency has prioritised gender inclusion in its programmes and aims to achieve 70 per cent digital literacy across Nigeria by 2027.
He said NITDA would support the forthcoming Women in Security (WINSEC) Summit & Awards 2026 and encouraged NAWOJ to submit a formal proposal for collaboration, while also proposing a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a long-term partnership.
Also speaking, NITDA’s Deputy Director of Cybersecurity, Dr Ayo Bakare, urged journalists to embrace artificial intelligence and digital tools to tackle misinformation and remain relevant in the rapidly evolving media landscape.
Earlier, Comrade Ibrahim said the partnership would equip women journalists with future-ready digital skills while promoting responsible technology reporting.
She also invited NITDA to participate in and support the WINSEC Summit & Awards 2026 through sponsorship, technical expertise and active engagement.
Both organisations expressed confidence that the collaboration would enhance digital inclusion, strengthen ethical journalism and contribute to Nigeria’s digital transformation.
