Military Intensifies Nationwide Offensive, Rescues Dozens As Terrorists, Kidnappers Suffer Major Losses
Nigeria’s military has sustained pressure on terrorists, kidnappers and other criminal networks across the country, recording a series of operational gains that underscore the growing reliance on intelligence-led and joint security operations.
According to the Defence Headquarters, troops operating between 10 and 16 July 2026 neutralised several terrorists, arrested suspected collaborators, logistics suppliers and arms couriers, rescued dozens of abducted victims and dismantled criminal hideouts across the North East, North West, North Central, South East and South-South.
In the North East, troops of Operation Hadin Kai arrested suspected terrorist logistics suppliers and collaborators, while several family members of Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters surrendered.
Security forces also rescued kidnapped civilians, including women and children, who were later reunited with their families.
Operations across Zamfara, Kebbi and Niger States under Operations Fansan Yamma and Savannah Shield led to the rescue of hostages, the neutralisation of terrorists and the recovery of weapons.
Troops also thwarted kidnapping attempts in Niger and Kogi States, rescuing students, a school principal and a National Examinations Council (NECO) official abducted during an attack on an examination centre.
In the South-South, troops destroyed illegal refining sites in Rivers State and rescued three abductees during a raid on kidnappers’ hideouts in Edo State.
Meanwhile, Operation UDO KA operatives in the South East arrested suspected members of a proscribed secessionist group, recovered arms and rescued kidnapped victims along the Aba–Port Harcourt Expressway.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, commended troops and other security agencies for their professionalism and praised the intelligence-led operation that secured the unconditional rescue of the 44 pupils and teachers abducted in Oyo State after 56 days in captivity.
He urged Nigerians to continue supporting security agencies with credible information as military operations continue nationwide.
