NAWOJ Hails Ruth Abubakar’s Emergence As PDP Candidate For Gombe Assembly Race
As conversations around women’s political inclusion continue to gain momentum in Nigeria, the emergence of more female candidates in elective politics is being seen as a step towards inclusive governance and stronger representation.
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists has congratulated one of its Board of Trustees members, Ruth Abubakar, following her emergence as the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the Billiri East State Constituency seat in the Gombe State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
National Chairperson of NAWOJ, Aisha Ibrahim, described the victory as a significant milestone for women in journalism, leadership and politics across the country.
In a congratulatory message, Ibrahim commended Abubakar’s resilience, dedication and longstanding service to humanity, noting that her emergence reflects the increasing participation of competent women in governance and decision-making.
She expressed confidence that the NAWOJ Board of Trustees member would bring integrity, commitment and grassroots experience to legislative representation if elected in the 2027 polls.
According to her, Ruth Abubakar has continued to distinguish herself as a woman of courage, vision and capacity, adding that her emergence as the PDP candidate for Billiri East remains a proud moment for the entire NAWOJ family.
The NAWOJ leadership also praised members of the Gombe State chapter for their solidarity and support throughout the party primary, describing their involvement as a strong demonstration of unity and sisterhood within the association.
Reports from the exercise indicated that members of the chapter were fully present to support Abubakar during the primary election which eventually secured her the party’s ticket.
Political observers in Gombe State have described her emergence as a boost for women’s political participation, especially amid growing calls for increased female representation in elective positions.
