Anambra Mayor Lifts Students With School Bags, Pledges WAEC and JAMB Support For Indigent Pupils

At a time when rising education costs are pushing many pupils to the margins, local leadership is stepping in to bridge the gap, one backpack at a time.

The Mayor of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon Mrs Amaka Obi (Iyom Ife-Abata), has distributed school bags to students of St Joseph’s Seminary School, Awka-Etiti, in a gesture aimed at supporting learning and easing the burden on families.

The items were donated by the Hamilton and Thelma Ezeonu Foundation.

The presentation forms part of initiatives under the Public Private Community Partnership (PPCP) framework of the Idemili South LGA, introduced by Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo CFR, to mobilise government, private organisations and communities for social development.

Commending the foundation for its commitment to education, Hon Amaka Obi said such collaborations are vital to improving access to quality education and strengthening shared responsibility for community growth.

To further support indigent students, the Mayor announced that the council would cover WAEC fees for every indigent student in the school and pay JAMB registration fees for 50 students, urging beneficiaries to make Idemili South and Anambra State proud.

The visit was attended by the Leader of the Idemili South Legislative Council, Rt Hon Ernest Ezeunyim; Deputy Leader, Hon Valentine Mbadugha; and the Head of Department of Education, Comrade Nnamdi Nweke.
