Police Rescue Professor, Free Kidnap Victims As Nationwide Crackdown Nets Suspects
Nigeria Police Force operatives have recorded a series of operational successes across several states, rescuing kidnap victims, arresting suspected criminals and recovering firearms and ammunition in a renewed push against violent crime.
A police operational summary covering 27 to 29 July 2026 showed that officers rescued a kidnapped University of Jos lecturer, Professor Danbauchi Solomon, in Plateau State and reunited him with his family, while efforts continue to track down his abductors.
In Kano State, police engaged armed bandits after an attack on a passenger bus, rescuing nine kidnapped victims.
In Ogun State, a joint operation involving the Police, So-Safe Corps, OPC and Amotekun also secured the release of a kidnap victim, who was taken for medical treatment.
The nationwide operations also led to the arrest of suspected kidnappers in Anambra, Rivers and Akwa Ibom states. Police said two wanted suspects arrested in Anambra confessed to an earlier kidnapping in which a ₦15 million ransom was allegedly collected.
In Benue State, two bandits were neutralised during a gun battle, with an AK-47 rifle recovered, while officers in Niger State intercepted a suspect transporting five AK-47 magazines and 185 rounds of live ammunition during a stop-and-search operation.
Further successes were recorded in Enugu, Bayelsa, Edo and Rivers states, where police arrested murder, cult and armed robbery suspects, recovering firearms, ammunition, illicit drugs and other exhibits.
The Force said investigations are ongoing in the affected states, with efforts focused on apprehending fleeing suspects and recovering additional weapons.
