Sustained military operations against terrorism and banditry in Nigeria’s North-West are yielding fresh results, with troops disrupting attacks, rescuing abducted victims and recovering stolen livestock in Katsina State.

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 17 Brigade rescued nine kidnapped victims, foiled a planned terrorist attack, recovered 56 rustled livestock and arrested a suspected terrorist during coordinated operations across Bakori, Faskari and Danmusa Local Government Areas.

The Army said troops, acting on credible intelligence, ambushed terrorists planning an attack in Bakori, forcing them to flee under heavy fire and abandon 52 sheep and four cows believed to have been rustled.

In a separate operation, soldiers rescued nine kidnap victims, four men, three women and two toddlers, who escaped from a terrorist hideout after being abducted in Zamfara State.

The victims are receiving medical care ahead of reunification with their families.

The Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Maikarfi Ibrahim, also arrested a suspected terrorist during an operational tour of Danmusa.

A search of the suspect’s phone allegedly revealed footage of him carrying an AK-47 rifle, while a motorcycle, mobile phones, an ATM card and cash were recovered.

The Army said the operations reflect its continued resolve to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks and enhance security across the region.
