CLO Urges Anambra Traders To Embrace Integrity, Responsible Citizenship

The push for a more accountable society must extend beyond government to marketplaces and individual conduct, the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) has said, urging traders and citizens to embrace integrity in business and civic responsibility.

Chairman of the CLO, Anambra State Branch, Vincent Ezekwueme, made the call during the monthly prayer session of the Sokoto Road Traders Association at Main Market, Onitsha.

Drawing from Hebrews 9:27, Ezekwueme reminded traders of the need to live accountable lives, stressing that material possessions and wealth are temporary.

He urged citizens to embrace love, humility, honesty, tolerance and compassion while rejecting fraud, corruption, selfishness and the excessive pursuit of wealth and power.

Ezekwueme also commended Chairman of the Sokoto Road Traders Association, Emeka Mbachu, for what he described as exemplary and patriotic leadership.

Addressing the gathering, Mbachu praised Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, for ongoing infrastructure projects, particularly the regeneration and reconstruction of Main Market, Onitsha.

He also urged traders and residents to clear gutters and drainage channels following recent flooding, warning that blocked waterways pose serious risks to lives and property.

Mbachu further encouraged eligible citizens to obtain their voter cards and participate actively in elections, describing voting as a legitimate tool for choosing competent leaders and holding public officials accountable.

The CLO maintained that markets should serve not only as centres of commerce but also as places where integrity, accountability and responsible citizenship are promoted.
