NDLEA Warns Nigerians Against Fake Vehicle Auction Scam Using Officials’ Names
Scammers are increasingly exploiting the names of senior public officials to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians, prompting the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to issue a fresh public warning against a fake vehicle auction scheme.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has alerted Nigerians to a fraudulent scheme in which scammers are impersonating senior officials of the Agency to swindle members of the public with fake offers of forfeited vehicles.
The Agency said the fraudsters have been using the name of its Secretary, Barrister Shadrach Haruna, to circulate private letters and messages advertising cheap vehicles allegedly available through NDLEA auction.
In a disclaimer issued on Friday, the Agency described the offers as a complete scam, stressing that no NDLEA official is authorised to privately sell or allocate forfeited vehicles or any other seized assets.
According to the Agency, all forfeited assets are disposed of only through public auctions conducted by government-approved auctioneers, with such exercises widely advertised in national newspapers and on official NDLEA platforms in line with due process.
The NDLEA urged the public to ignore and report any letters, text messages or social media posts claiming to offer vehicles or other assets for sale on behalf of Barrister Haruna or any other official of the Agency.
The Agency reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and advised anyone approached with such fraudulent offers to report the matter to the nearest NDLEA command or through its official communication channels.
