Nigeria’s military says sustained intelligence-led operations are steadily weakening terrorist and criminal networks across the country, with fresh figures pointing to significant gains in the second quarter of 2026.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) disclosed that troops neutralised 662 terrorists and other criminal elements, arrested 1,084 suspects, rescued 951 kidnapped victims and secured the surrender of 39 insurgents between April and June 2026.
The operations also led to the recovery of 328 firearms, 12,590 rounds of ammunition and the dismantling of 12 illegal refining sites.
A major highlight of the quarter was the rescue of more than 360 civilians, mostly women and children, from captivity in the Mandara Mountains, Borno State, alongside sustained offensives against Boko Haram, ISWAP, kidnappers and other armed groups nationwide.
The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations until peace is restored across the country, while urging Nigerians to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies.
