A healthy police force is fundamental to effective policing, and Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, is placing officers’ welfare at the centre of efforts to strengthen the Force.
The Inspector-General on Tuesday convened a one-day virtual meeting with heads of Police Medical Facilities across the country, urging improved healthcare service delivery to ensure officers remain medically fit to carry out their constitutional responsibilities.
Welcoming participants, Force Medical Director, AIG Nkechi Eze, commended the IGP’s leadership and continued support for the Directorate of Force Medical Services, noting that recent achievements were driven by the enabling environment created under his administration.
In his address, the IGP praised medical personnel for their critical role in safeguarding the health of police officers and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to providing the support needed to improve healthcare delivery across its medical facilities.
Disu also highlighted the Directorate’s forthcoming 50th anniversary as a significant milestone, recognising its decades-long contribution to providing quality healthcare for police personnel, their families, persons in custody and members of the public.
He further stressed the importance of prioritising mental health and psychological wellbeing among officers while calling for the institutionalisation of basic first aid training across the Force to strengthen emergency response and operational effectiveness.
