Troops Foil Terrorist Attack On Benue Yam Market, Kill Two Suspects
Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE have thwarted what could have been a deadly attack on one of Benue State’s busiest markets, underscoring the continuing security threats facing communities despite sustained military offensives.
Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), working alongside the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, have foiled a terrorist attack on the popular Tor Donga Yam Market in Benue State, killing two suspected terrorists and recovering weapons and ammunition.
The troops responded to a distress call on Sunday while on fighting and confidence-building patrols around the market, engaging the attackers in a fierce gun battle.
Two suspects, identified as Dantaraba and Golozo, were neutralised, while others reportedly fled with gunshot wounds.
Security operatives recovered an AK-47 rifle, a damaged pistol, ammunition, ATM cards and other items from the scene.
Military authorities said the swift intervention prevented what could have been a devastating attack on traders and residents, allowing commercial activities at the market to continue uninterrupted.
The Force Commander of Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, praised the troops and the Benue State Civil Protection Guard for their professionalism and effective collaboration.
He also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence, stressing that security remains a shared responsibility.
