ECOWAS Ministers Move To Strengthen Regional Trade and Industrial Growth

A strong regional economy depends on coordinated policies, especially as West Africa navigates shifting global trade dynamics and continental integration efforts.

Trade and industry ministers from member states of the Economic Community of West African States have met in Accra, Ghana, to develop a common regional response to emerging global and African economic developments.

The Fifth Meeting of ECOWAS Ministers of Trade and Industry (ECOMOTI-5), held from 11 to 12 June 2026, brought together policymakers to provide strategic direction on trade, industry, investment, competition, and consumer protection across the region.

Organised by the ECOWAS Commission through its Department of Economic Affairs and Agriculture, the meeting reviewed recommendations from technical experts and validated key proposals aimed at deepening regional integration and promoting sustainable economic growth.

The ministers also examined evolving global and continental economic trends, with discussions focused on strengthening West Africa’s competitiveness, enhancing intra-regional trade, and advancing industrial development under the bloc’s broader economic agenda.
