Onyewuchi’s Mega Skills Centre Signals Shift From Promises To Practical Empowerment

In a country where empowerment often ends in speeches, Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi appears to be betting on something more tangible, skills that can put food on the table.

The Senator representing Imo East Senatorial District (Owerri Zone), Ezenwa Onyewuchi, has carried out an on-the-spot inspection of the Mega Skills Acquisition Centre he facilitated, as preparations intensify for its commissioning next month.

The visit aimed to assess the pace and quality of work by contractors handling the final phase of the project, while ensuring that all was set for a seamless inauguration.

Described as the first of its kind in Imo State and the wider South-East region, the facility is being positioned as a practical response to unemployment, with a focus on long-term human capital development.

The centre will house five specialised departments: solar installation and maintenance, phone repair, fishery and aquaculture, ICT, and printing technology, areas considered critical to today’s evolving economy.

Trial training sessions have already commenced, with plans for continuous capacity-building programmes once the centre is formally opened.

For many observers, the project reflects a shift from conventional empowerment initiatives to structured, skill-based interventions-one that could redefine grassroots development if effectively sustained.
