Easter: SWAN Links Resurrection Message To National Unity and Sports Development
At a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with socio-economic challenges, the call for unity, hope, and collective responsibility has taken centre stage this Easter season.
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has joined Christians across the world in commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, urging Nigerians to embrace compassion, sacrifice, and renewed commitment to nation-building.
In a statement issued on Sunday, SWAN President, Isaiah Benjamin, described the resurrection of Christ as a powerful symbol of love, redemption, and new beginnings.
He expressed optimism that the Easter season would bring upliftment and strengthen unity among Nigerians, encouraging citizens to work together towards building a better and more cohesive nation.
Benjamin further called on stakeholders within the sporting ecosystem, including athletes, administrators, media practitioners, and leaders across sectors, to recommit themselves to advancing sports development in the country.
According to him, a thriving sports sector holds immense potential to address critical national issues such as unemployment, social welfare, and insecurity.
He stressed that empowering individuals and communities through sports can significantly reduce poverty and reshape Nigeria’s socio-economic narrative.
The SWAN President maintained that when sports are given the attention it deserves, their ripple effects would be felt across all facets of society, fostering growth, inclusion, and national pride.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to reflect on the virtues of love, unity, and service, noting that these values remain essential in driving both national progress and sustainable sports development.
