Powering The Grid Starts With People: TCN Pledges Welfare Boost For Better Service Delivery

In Nigeria’s fragile power ecosystem, where outages often dominate public frustration, a quieter but critical issue is gaining attention, staff welfare as a driver of performance.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Engr. (Dr.) Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, has reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to improving staff welfare as a pathway to enhanced service delivery across the national grid.

Speaking during a National Joint Advisory Committee meeting between TCN management and the leadership of the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC) at the company’s Abuja headquarters on Wednesday, Abdulaziz stressed the importance of collaboration with workers to achieve operational efficiency.

He acknowledged that while challenges remain within the power transmission sector, sustained cooperation from the union, alongside improved funding, would help the company meet its performance targets.

Responding on behalf of the union, SSAEAC President General, Comrade Chika Benedict, commended the management’s efforts but urged it to intensify actions towards staff welfare, noting that workers remain central to the stability of electricity transmission nationwide.

Discussions at the meeting focused extensively on improving working conditions and strengthening operational efficiency, two factors widely seen as essential to stabilising Nigeria’s power supply chain.

As the country continues to grapple with inconsistent electricity, stakeholders say meaningful reforms within institutions like TCN could prove decisive in turning the tide.
