Police Operations Yield Results In Anambra, Arrest Three, Recover Arms, Stolen Tanker

Sustained intelligence-led policing is increasingly shaping the fight against crime in Anambra State, with fresh operations yielding notable breakthroughs.

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers and cultists in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area, while also recovering firearms, ammunition and a suspected stolen petrol tanker in separate operations.

Police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, acting on credible intelligence on 21 March 2026, raided a suspected criminal hideout where the trio, identified as Francis Chukwuka Anene (46), Emmanuel Obi (29) and Okoye Chinonso (35), were apprehended.

Items recovered from the suspects include two locally made Beretta pistols, four rounds of live 9mm ammunition and a suspected fake security identity card.

According to the Police, preliminary investigations suggest the suspects are linked to a criminal network allegedly involved in armed robbery and other violent activities in Ogidi and surrounding communities.

Further investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of their operations.

In a related development, officers attached to the Ozubulu Police Division recovered a suspected stolen white petrol tanker abandoned along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway in the early hours of 17 March 2026. The vehicle was found without a registration number, with the key still in the ignition.

The Command said efforts are underway to identify the rightful owner of the tanker and determine the circumstances surrounding its abandonment.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reassured residents of the Command’s resolve to sustain ongoing security operations, urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid policing efforts.
