In a country often tested by division, moments of shared faith and reflection are emerging as powerful symbols of hope.
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has extended a message of goodwill to Muslim faithful across the country as they mark Eid al-Fitr, urging Nigerians to embrace unity, compassion, and collective responsibility in addressing the nation’s challenges.
In a statement signed by its President, Archbishop Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso, the Conference commended Muslims for their devotion during Ramadan, noting that their commitment to fasting, prayer, and almsgiving reflects values urgently needed in today’s world.
The bishops highlighted the rare coincidence of Christians and Muslims commencing their fasting periods on the same day this year, describing it as a profound reminder of shared spiritual values and a collective call to national renewal.
Against the backdrop of insecurity, economic hardship, and social division, the CBCN stressed the need for Nigerians to move beyond mere coexistence and actively work together to build a nation anchored on justice, truth, and mutual respect.
The message further expressed prayers for peace, unity, and divine guidance for the country’s leaders, while wishing Muslims a joyful and spiritually fulfilling Eid celebration.
