Eid-El-Fitri: FRSC Rolls Out Nationwide Special Patrol As Holiday Traffic Surges

With festive travel often comes a spike in road crashes, congestion and risky driving, and the Federal Road Safety Corps says it is moving early to stay ahead of the rush.

The FRSC has announced a nationwide deployment of personnel and logistics for its 2026 Eid-El-Fitri Special Patrol Operations, scheduled to run from 17 to 22 March 2026, in a bid to keep major highways safe and traffic flowing smoothly across the country.

According to the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, the operation is aimed at reducing road crashes, injuries and fatalities during the Sallah period, when increased movement by travellers is expected nationwide.

He said the Corps would maintain 24-hour patrols on critical road corridors, backed by rescue teams, ambulances, tow trucks, patrol vehicles and motorbikes for quick emergency response.

He added that officers would also monitor traffic situations closely and remove obstructions from highways to minimise delays.

The FRSC said the patrol would focus on key traffic offences such as speeding, dangerous overtaking, overloading, tyre violations, lane indiscipline, seat-belt offences, mobile phone use while driving, route violations, and the operation of unroadworthy vehicles.

As part of the plan, commanding officers across sectors have been directed to fully deploy operational tools including patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, radar guns, breathalysers, traffic cones, patrol bikes and communication gadgets.

Special Marshals are also expected to support traffic control efforts during the period.

The Corps added that it would work closely with other agencies including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Fire Service, and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency to ensure swift emergency response and order on the roads.

Motorists were also urged to tune in to National Traffic Radio 107.1FM for real-time traffic updates and travel advisories, while emergencies can be reported through the toll-free number 122 or 0700-CALL-FRSC.

While wishing Muslim faithful a peaceful Eid-El-Fitri celebration, the Corps Marshal urged road users to obey traffic rules, avoid speeding and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.
