INEC Debunks Fake 2027 Election Timetable, Urges Public To Rely On Official Channels

With political activities already gaining momentum ahead of the 2027 general election, Nigeria’s electoral umpire has moved swiftly to shut down misinformation making the rounds.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied reports claiming that it has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election, describing such information as false and misleading.

In a statement issued by the Commission, INEC clarified that no timetable has been approved or made public for the 2027 polls.

It stressed that it operates strictly within the provisions of the law, particularly Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which mandates the Commission to publish a Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the date fixed for a general election.

According to INEC, any timetable or schedule circulating outside this legal framework did not originate from the Commission.

The electoral body assured Nigerians that the official timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election would be released in due course, in full compliance with the Constitution and the Electoral Act, and would be communicated only through its verified and established platforms.

INEC also urged the public and the media to disregard the fake reports and rely solely on its official channels for accurate and authoritative information.
