New Year On The Roads: FRSC Corps Marshal Urges Nigerians To Celebrate Responsibly

As Nigerians welcome the New Year with renewed hope and increased travel, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned that celebrations must not come at the cost of lives on the highways.

The Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, has appealed to motorists nationwide to prioritise safety, obey traffic laws and drive responsibly during the New Year period.

He cautioned that preventable road traffic crashes, often caused by speeding, drunk driving, dangerous overtaking and disregard for traffic regulations, continue to claim lives during festive movements.

According to him, the New Year season is typically marked by heavy vehicular traffic, driver fatigue and reckless road use, factors that significantly increase crash risks.

He therefore urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, comply with speed limits, avoid alcohol or drug-impaired driving and remain fully attentive while on the road.

The Corps Marshal also advised travellers to plan their journeys carefully, take adequate rest and cooperate with traffic and safety officials deployed across the country.

He reassured Nigerians that FRSC personnel are strategically positioned on major highways and critical corridors to manage traffic, enforce compliance and respond swiftly to emergencies.

Emphasising that road safety is a collective responsibility, he called on all road users to make safety-conscious choices that will protect lives and property as the nation steps into the New Year. He concluded by wishing Nigerians a productive, peaceful and safer year ahead.
