FG, US Deal Heavy Blow To ISIS As Precision Strikes Hit Sokoto Forest Enclaves
In a significant boost to Nigeria’s counter-terrorism campaign, the Federal Government has confirmed the successful neutralisation of foreign Islamic State (ISIS) elements attempting to infiltrate the country from the Sahel region.
In a statement issued on Friday, and signed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government disclosed that the operation, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was carried out in close coordination with the United States.
The precision strikes targeted two major ISIS terrorist enclaves hidden within the Bauni forest axis of Tangaza Local Government Area in Sokoto State.
According to intelligence reports, the affected locations served as assembly and staging grounds for foreign ISIS fighters working alongside local collaborators to plan large-scale attacks on Nigerian soil.
The strikes were executed in the early hours of Friday, 26 December 2025, between 12:12 a.m. and 1:30 a.m., under established command and control structures involving the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Sixteen GPS-guided precision munitions were deployed using MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial platforms, launched from maritime platforms in the Gulf of Guinea.
While debris from expended munitions landed in parts of Tambuwal Local Government Area in Sokoto State and Offa in Kwara State, authorities confirmed that no civilian casualties were recorded and the affected areas were swiftly secured.
The Federal Government reiterated its resolve to dismantle transnational terrorist networks threatening Nigeria’s sovereignty, stressing that it remains fully in control of the nation’s security architecture.
Nigerians were urged to remain calm and vigilant as operations against terrorist groups continue.
