Anambra Police Take Anti-Cultism Campaign To The Streets
In a renewed push to reclaim public spaces from criminal influence, the Anambra State Police Command has taken its anti-cultism message directly to the people.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, on Wednesday led a high-profile anti-cultism walk and advocacy rally in Awka, declaring zero tolerance for cultism and related crimes in the state.
Addressing residents and stakeholders during the rally, CP Orutugu warned that the Command would act decisively against anyone involved in cult-related violence, stressing that offenders would be tracked down and brought to justice without compromise.
The rally formed part of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), a community-centred initiative focused on prevention, engagement and strategic partnerships to curb social vices before they escalate into crime.
Key stakeholders present included officials of the Red Cross Society, the Youth President-General of ASATU, Hon. Ken Okoli, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security and Anti-Cultism, Hon. Kingsley Ezika, POCACOV Chairman Comrade Surveyor Emeka Obi, and the Managing Director of ASWAMA, Chief Mike Ozoemena. All pledged strong support for the campaign.
Transport unions, including keke and bus drivers, also joined the rally, committing to sustained advocacy and the sharing of real-time intelligence to help dismantle cult networks.
CP Orutugu called on parents, community leaders, religious bodies and youth groups to work closely with the Police by steering young people away from crime and promptly reporting suspicious activities, reaffirming the Command’s resolve to safeguard lives and property across Anambra State.
