Tears and Triumph: Market Women Melt Soludo’s Heart With ₦50,000 Re-election Gift

In a rare show of grassroots affection, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, was moved to tears when a group of elderly market women from Idemili South Local Government Area donated ₦50,000 to support his re-election campaign.
The emotional scene unfolded in Ojoto, the council headquarters, on Thursday, 30th October 2025, during Soludo’s campaign tour ahead of the November 8 governorship election.
The women, mostly petty traders, said their modest contribution was a heartfelt gesture of gratitude for the governor’s people-centred policies, which have touched their lives directly.
Speaking on behalf of the group, one of the traders explained that their token reflected appreciation for Soludo’s free education initiative, free healthcare for women and children, and improved road infrastructure.
“Governor Soludo has eased our burdens.
What we’ve given is small compared to what we’ve gained,” she said, adding that they would also mobilise their families to vote massively for his re-election.
Overwhelmed by the gesture, Soludo described the support as “unprecedented”, noting that communities and individuals now sponsor their own rallies and contribute willingly.
“This shows that people are happy with what we’re doing,” the governor said. “The next four years will bring even greater transformation. You’ve not seen anything yet.”
He also urged residents to increase voter turnout in the coming election, promising rewards for communities with higher participation rates.
The event witnessed further donations, including ₦30 million from the Ojoto community, ₦20 million from the Akwukwu community, and ₦825,000 from newly recruited teachers.
Campaign council chairman in Idemili South, Hon. Ikenna Iyiegbu, brother to entrepreneur Obi Cubana, assured that the area would deliver overwhelming votes for Soludo, while community leaders and political stakeholders pledged to sustain his developmental drive.
Dr Vera Nwadinobi, Chairperson of ASUBEB, reaffirmed that teachers, market women, and youths were ready to defend their votes.
As chants of “Solution is coming again!” filled the air, the moment stood as a symbolic reminder that even the smallest tokens, when given with sincerity, can carry the greatest political weight.
