INEC Refutes Reports Of Disobeying Court Order Over Action Alliance Leadership Dispute

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has debunked reports suggesting it disobeyed a Federal High Court order in Osogbo, Osun State, regarding the leadership tussle within the Action Alliance (AA) party.

In a statement issued by its National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the Commission described the reports as misleading and mischievous, clarifying that it had already complied with the court’s judgement within the stipulated timeframe.

According to INEC, it filed relevant court processes on 6th October 2025, well within the deadline, to demonstrate compliance with the order recognising the AA executive elected on 7th October 2023 in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The Commission said it even tendered its website dashboard as proof of compliance.

However, INEC noted that when the judgement creditors alleged partial compliance for omitting the name of the purported National Chairman, Rufai Omoaje, it responded by presenting evidence of Omoaje’s pending appeal at the Supreme Court.

The Commission stressed that it could not list Omoaje as National Chairman while a superior Court of Appeal judgement removing him from office remained valid.

INEC urged media organisations to verify facts before publication to prevent the spread of misinformation.
