Wike To Flag Off Construction Of 12 New Roads, Light Up Abuja Programme This Thursday

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is set to launch another round of infrastructure renewal in Abuja, with the official flag-off of 12 new roads scheduled for this Thursday.

According to officials of the FCT Administration, the projects will not only focus on road construction but also include the provision of solar-powered streetlights across major areas within the Federal Capital City (FCC) and key expressways.

The initiative falls under the Light Up Abuja Programme, which aims to enhance security, improve mobility, and promote nightlife in the city.

Wike, who has consistently emphasised his administration’s commitment to urban renewal, is expected to personally lead the ceremony.

The road projects will open access to new districts, ease traffic congestion, and support Abuja’s growing population.

Residents and stakeholders have welcomed the development, noting that poor road networks and inadequate street lighting have long hindered smooth transportation and security within the FCT.

The Light Up Abuja Programme is already being rolled out in phases, with solar-powered lights installed along major corridors.

The new expansion, beginning Thursday, signals the administration’s determination to fast-track the FCT’s transformation into a safer, more modern capital city.
