Crisis Communication Centre Hails Keyamo’s ‘Strategic’ Handling Of Aviation Disputes

The Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC) has commended the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, for what it described as a “measured and strategic” intervention in resolving recent aviation sector disputes that captured national attention.

The high-profile clashes involved a passenger, Ms Comfort Emmanson, and Ibom Air, as well as a separate altercation between Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (Kwam 1) and ValueJet staff.

Both cases stirred public debate on the growing friction between airline operators and passengers in Nigeria.

In a statement issued by its Chairman, Major General Chris Olukolade (rtd), the CCC said Keyamo’s approach facilitating the withdrawal of criminal complaints, easing penalties, and restoring airline operating privileges, while ordering mandatory retraining for staff struck the right balance between accountability and public trust.

“These measures, if fully implemented, will not only improve service culture but also build public confidence in the sector’s ability to handle disputes fairly and professionally,” the CCC stated.

The organisation praised the Minister’s transparency in presenting the facts, acknowledging shared responsibility, and outlining corrective steps, noting that this prevented further media escalation.

It urged aviation stakeholders to seize the moment to foster respect, cooperation, and improved service standards across airports.

According to the CCC, consistent enforcement of the resolutions backed by regular public updates—could make the intervention a blueprint for managing crises in other public-facing sectors.
