IGP Honours Top Officers, Moves To Improve Police Retirement Benefits
It was a proud moment at the Force Headquarters in Abuja as the Inspector-General of Police, Dr Kayode Egbetokun, on 5 August 2025, decorated ACP Aliyu Shaba and CSP Sentome Obi, winners of the Police Officer of the Year award for 2023 and 2024, with their new ranks.
The IGP, speaking at the ceremony, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to rewarding excellence, announcing that officers who clinch top awards, including the IGP Commendation or consecutive category awards, will now be considered for accelerated promotion.
“Honour and recognition in the Force are earned through hard work, discipline, and professionalism,” he said.
In a related development, the IGP also held an interactive session with senior officials from PenCom and NPF Pensions Limited.
Led by PenCom Director-General, Ms Omolola Oluworaran, and NPF Pensions MD, Mr Kolade Morakinyo, the meeting focused on improving retirement benefits for officers.
Dr Egbetokun expressed optimism that steps being taken would soon uplift the welfare of retired personnel, stressing the Force’s dedication to building a service-oriented, professional, and people-friendly police force.
