TCN Inspires Future Engineers As Kano Students Tour Kumbotso Transmission Substation

A classroom lesson can inspire curiosity, but seeing critical infrastructure in action often leaves a lasting impression.

That was the experience for science students of Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Dukawuya, Kano, during an educational visit to the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s (TCN) Kumbotso 330/132kV Transmission Substation.

The science students visited the facility on 4 August 2026, where TCN engineers took them through the electricity transmission process, explaining the functions of key substation equipment, control room operations and the strict safety measures that keep Nigeria’s transmission network running efficiently.

The interactive excursion also gave the students the opportunity to engage directly with engineers, ask questions and gain practical insights into power system operations beyond the classroom.

TCN said the visit was designed to deepen students’ understanding of Nigeria’s electricity transmission infrastructure while encouraging greater interest in science, engineering and technology careers.

According to the company, the initiative reflects its commitment to promoting technical knowledge, engineering excellence and developing the skilled workforce needed to strengthen Nigeria’s power sector.
