Nigeria has moved to reassure the African golfing community that preparations for the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) remain firmly on course, despite speculation over a reported disagreement involving the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) and the African Golf Confederation (AGC).

The Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) said the continental women’s amateur golf championship will hold as scheduled from 2 to 7 November 2026 at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, with registrations already received from more than 30 African countries.

LGAN President and Chairperson of the AACT 2026 Local Organising Committee, Dr Lami Ahmed, described claims that Nigeria could lose the hosting rights as false and misleading.

She explained that the All Africa Challenge Trophy is governed by the All Africa Challenge Trophy Association (AACTA), which oversees women’s amateur golf on the continent.

At the same time, the AGC is responsible for men’s golf and runs a separate championship.

Dr Ahmed said preparations for the tournament were progressing as planned, assuring participating countries, sponsors and stakeholders that Nigeria remained committed to staging a world-class championship.

She added that hosting the event aligns with the Federal Government’s sports development agenda and the National Sports Commission’s drive to attract major international sporting events, promote sports tourism and strengthen youth development.

LGAN urged the public and the media to disregard misinformation suggesting that Nigeria’s hosting rights had been affected, reaffirming its determination to deliver a successful and historic 2026 championship.
