CAPPA Executive Director Bags Rotary Humanitarian Award For Decades Of Public Interest Advocacy
In a society where lasting change is often driven by sustained advocacy rather than headlines, recognition has come for one of Nigeria’s foremost public interest campaigners.
The Executive Director of Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA), Akinbode Oluwafemi, has received the Outstanding Service to Humanity Award from the Rotary Club of Abuja Metro in recognition of his decades-long contributions to public health, environmental justice, corporate accountability and community development.
The award was presented during the club’s 17th Investiture Ceremony in Abuja, with Rotary describing Oluwafemi as a leader whose commitment to humanitarian service, integrity and public good reflects its ideal of Service Above Self.
Reacting to the honour, Oluwafemi dedicated the award to Nigerians and communities whose resilience continues to inspire his work, saying it reinforces his commitment to building a more just and equitable society.
Over the years, he has led advocacy efforts that contributed to landmark public health reforms, including Nigeria’s National Tobacco Control Act, regulations on trans fats and sodium reduction, while championing stronger measures to curb the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages.
Congratulating its Executive Director, CAPPA described the award as a fitting recognition of a lifetime devoted to advancing social justice, protecting communities and promoting policies that put human dignity above commercial interests.
