As Nigeria confronts increasingly complex security challenges, stronger collaboration between security agencies and the media is emerging as a critical tool for building public trust and promoting national stability.

Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7, Victor Olaiya, has pledged the command’s full support for the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists’ Women in Security (WINSEC) Summit 2026.

Olaiya gave the assurance when he received a NAWOJ delegation led by its National Chairperson, Aisha Ibrahim, at the Zone 7 Headquarters in Abuja.

He described journalists as strategic partners in promoting public awareness, accountability and national security, stressing that security remains a collective responsibility.

The AIG also urged NAWOJ to formally communicate its security, logistics, protocol and other requirements to the Inspector-General of Police to facilitate coordinated support for the summit.

Earlier, Ibrahim said the summit would provide a national platform for dialogue on emerging security challenges, community policing, conflict prevention, strategic communication and women’s leadership in security.

The WINSEC Summit, scheduled for August 5, 2026, at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, is expected to attract more than 150 delegates from security agencies, government institutions, diplomatic missions, civil society, academia, development organisations and the media.
