A mother and her two-year-old son have regained their freedom after police operatives stormed a kidnappers’ forest hideout in Kwara State, forcing the abductors to flee after a gun battle.
The victims, 43-year-old Adijat Kuburat and her son, Abdul Malik Hamzat, were rescued on Saturday, 4 July 2026, during an intelligence-led operation at Bode Sadu.
Operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team, working with local security groups, raided the forest following credible information about the victims’ location.
Police said the kidnappers opened fire on sighting the operatives but fled deeper into the forest after security forces responded.
A search of the hideout led to the rescue of the mother and child.
The victims have been taken to a medical facility for treatment, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal network behind the abduction.
Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the operatives for the successful rescue and reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes.
