Nigeria’s police leadership has undergone a major shake-up as the Police Service Commission (PSC) approved the promotion of 93 senior officers, aimed at strengthening professionalism and leadership within the Force.
At its plenary meeting in Abuja, the Commission elevated 13 Commissioners of Police, including Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu, Monday Agbonika, Haruna Alaba Yahaya and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin, to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).
It also promoted 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police to Commissioners of Police, with Ajayi Oluyemi among the beneficiaries.
The Commission further approved the promotion of 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police to Deputy Commissioners, 33 Chief Superintendents of Police to Assistant Commissioners, and con.
It confirmed appointments of 162 Assistant Superintendents of Police II to the substantive rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police I.
PSC Chairman, retired DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu, congratulated the officers and urged them to uphold professionalism, transparency and accountability while avoiding interference in civil matters, particularly land disputes.
He also reminded them to protect their integrity and remember that there is life after retirement.
