TCN Restores Benin-Egbin 330kV Line After Grid Instability Disrupts Power Supply To Lagos
Electricity supply to Lagos and surrounding areas is gradually being restored after a voltage instability on the national grid triggered widespread transmission line outages and disrupted power delivery.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said the incident occurred at about 8:19 a.m. on Thursday, causing voltage instability that spread across the Lagos corridor, forcing some generating stations offline and interrupting electricity supply.
In a statement, the General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the National Control Centre immediately directed some power generators to reduce output to stabilise the grid and prevent further disruption.
She disclosed that the Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Joseph Tegbe, convened an emergency meeting with the leadership of TCN and the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) to coordinate restoration efforts.
According to Mbah, the Benin-Egbin 330kV transmission line has been successfully restored and is now transmitting bulk electricity, while engineers from the Benin and Omotoso sub-regions are working to fix faults on the Benin-Omotoso 330kV line to achieve full restoration.
TCN apologised for the inconvenience caused to residents and businesses, assuring consumers that every effort is being made to restore normal power supply and strengthen the national grid against future disruptions.
