A stronger local workforce begins with stronger trainers.

In a move aimed at raising professional standards and deepening local capacity in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has announced plans to begin issuing a new certification for industry trainers.

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) is set to launch the Nigerian Content Trainers Registration Certificate (NCTRC), a new initiative designed to certify qualified trainers and enhance workforce development across the oil and gas industry.

The certification programme was unveiled during a sensitisation workshop with members of the Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria (OGTAN) in Lagos.

Representing the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, the General Manager of Infrastructure and Capacity Building Directorate, Barr. Sheba Olugbenga, said the scheme would provide a structured framework to ensure only competent professionals are entrusted with training industry personnel.

According to the Board, the initiative is a critical step towards sustainable Nigerian Content development, especially as technological advancements and evolving industry demands continue to reshape the sector.

NCDMB’s Director of Capacity Building, Engr. Abayomi Bamidele, warned prospective applicants against dealing with intermediaries, stressing that the certification process is free and should be accessed only through approved channels.

He also revealed plans to integrate selected training tools and course templates into the curriculum of the Nigerian Content Academy to support specialised workforce training.

The Nigerian Content Trainers Registration Certificate will cover eleven areas of specialisation, combining technical and soft-skill competencies to help build a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting the industry’s changing needs.
