IGP Disu Pushes Data-Driven Policing, Orders Improved Crime Database Management

As crime becomes increasingly sophisticated, the Nigeria Police Force is intensifying efforts to harness technology and data to improve investigations and strengthen public safety.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has directed investigators and heads of investigative units nationwide to prioritise the accurate capture and management of suspects’ information as part of a broader strategy to deepen intelligence-led policing.

The IGP gave the directive during the One-Day Crime and Incident Database Impact Sensitisation Workshop organised by the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The workshop focused on the Suspects’ Information Capturing Process under the Nigeria Police Force Crime and Incident Database (NPF-ICD) Centre Project, an initiative aimed at enhancing crime analysis, intelligence gathering, evidence-based investigations, inter-agency collaboration and proactive crime prevention.

Speaking at the event, Disu stressed that modern policing depends on timely, accurate and actionable data, noting that law enforcement agencies can no longer rely solely on conventional investigative methods.

He described the Crime and Incident Database Centre as a critical policing asset capable of tracking criminal trends, identifying repeat offenders, linking crimes across jurisdictions and supporting informed operational decisions.

The police chief reaffirmed his commitment to modernising the Force through technology, innovation and intelligence-led strategies, while urging Commands and Formations to comply fully with established suspects’ information capturing procedures.

He also encouraged participants to actively contribute ideas that would improve operational efficiency and strengthen the Force’s crime management framework.

The Nigeria Police Force says it remains committed to leveraging technology and innovation to enhance service delivery, improve public safety and build a more professional, accountable and citizen-focused institution.
