Nigeria Police Mourn Former Enugu CP, AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu
The Nigeria Police Force has announced the death of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Kanayo V. Uzuegbu, describing him as a distinguished officer whose more than three decades of service left a lasting impact on the Force and the nation.
AIG Uzuegbu passed away on May 30, 2026, after a policing career marked by leadership, professionalism and dedication to public safety.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Force said the late senior officer served in several strategic command and administrative positions, including Commissioner of Police for Enugu State Command, Commissioner of Police, Operations Communication at Force Headquarters, and Commander of Sector 8 of the African Union Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan.
A native of Umuaka in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, Uzuegbu joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1992 after training at the Police Academy, Kaduna.
He also held academic qualifications in philosophy, strategic studies, peace studies and conflict resolution, alongside specialised training in counter-terrorism, human rights and strategic leadership.
The Police leadership extended its condolences to his family, describing him as an officer who brought honour to the Force and served Nigeria with commendable dedication.
