TCN Announces Planned Power Outage Across Five States, Parts Of Niger Republic

A planned maintenance outage on a major transmission line is set to disrupt electricity supply across several northern states and parts of neighbouring Niger Republic, highlighting the importance of routine infrastructure maintenance in sustaining power reliability.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a scheduled power outage that will affect electricity consumers in Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, and parts of Bauchi and Yobe states on Sunday, May 31, 2026.

According to TCN, the outage will occur between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to enable its maintenance crew carry out annual maintenance work on the Mando, Kumbotso 330kV Transmission Line.

A statement signed by the GM Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the exercise is necessary to repair a damaged Red Phase Conductor on Tower T187 along the transmission route.

For this, the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) will be unable to receive bulk power supply during the maintenance period, leading to a temporary blackout in the affected areas.

Customers in Gazaoua, Niger Republic, who are supplied through the network, will also experience service disruption.

TCN apologised for the inconvenience and appealed to affected consumers for understanding as it works to improve the reliability and efficiency of the transmission network.
