COAS Reaffirms Commitment To Troops’ Welfare At Eid-el-Kabir Luncheon In Nasarawa

Recognising that troop morale is vital to national security, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerian Army personnel serving in various operational theatres across the country.

The assurance was conveyed during the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir Luncheon hosted for troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) in Doma, Nasarawa State, where the COAS was represented by the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General Musa Etsu-Ndagi.

Addressing the troops, Lieutenant General Shaibu described Eid-el-Kabir as a season of faith, sacrifice and devotion to duty.

He praised soldiers for their courage, resilience and dedication in tackling terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, oil theft and other security threats across the country.

The Army Chief highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing personnel welfare, including improved accommodation, better healthcare services, educational support for soldiers’ children and financial welfare packages.

He assured troops that their sacrifices would continue to be recognised and rewarded through sustained welfare programmes.

He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support to the Nigerian Army and the Armed Forces.

Earlier, the Force Commander of Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, said the luncheon was organised to honour the commitment and sacrifices of troops deployed across Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba States.

The event also featured a courtesy visit to the Andoma of Doma, Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu Oga Onawo, who pledged continued support for security agencies and prayed for enduring peace in Nigeria.

Cultural performances, sporting activities, refreshments and group photographs added colour to the celebration.
