Federal High Court Opens Weekend Registries For Pre-Election Cases

As Nigeria’s political season gathers momentum, the Federal High Court has moved to prevent legal delays that could disrupt the country’s electoral timetable.

The court announced that registries across all its divisions nationwide will now operate between 10:00am and 2:00pm on weekends and public holidays strictly for the filing of pre-election matters.

Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court, Yahaya Yakubu Shafa, said the decision became necessary to meet the limited timeframe allowed for pre-election litigation under electoral laws.

The directive, issued on Thursday, is expected to ease pressure on legal practitioners handling election-related disputes and ensure timely access to justice ahead of upcoming political activities.
